Desi Calculation: Lower Your Shipping Costs
September 28, 2025 · KârHesapla · Ferhat Demir · E-commerce Specialist
Desi is the billing unit for the volume a shipment occupies:
Desi = (Width × Length × Height in cm) / 3000
The carrier bills whichever is greater: volumetric desi or actual weight. For light but bulky products (pillows, toys, plastics), the difference is very large.
Optimization tactics
- Use durable poly bags/envelopes instead of boxes for suitable products.
- Reduce the empty space inside the box — even 2 cm can lower the desi.
- Choose your standard box sizes according to your best-selling products.
- If you are hitting the minimum-fee tier, shrinking the package may bring no benefit; calculate first.
Air freight uses a divisor of 5000 and sea freight 6000; the domestic standard is 3000.
