Inventory Turnover: Is Your Money Sitting on the Shelf?
February 25, 2026 · KârHesapla · Ferhat Demir · E-commerce Specialist
Inventory turnover shows how many times your stock is sold and replenished in a given period:
Turnover = Cost of Goods Sold for the Period / Average Inventory Value
Why is it critical?
Every lira sitting in stock is tied-up capital that could be generating profit in another product. For a seller working at 40% a year, 100,000 TL of stock sitting on the shelf for 6 months means an opportunity cost of 20,000 TL.
Practical thresholds
- Fast-moving consumer goods/fashion: aim for 1+ turns a month
- Electronics/accessories: one turn every 1.5–2 months is reasonable
- Stock that has not moved for more than 6 months: clear it with a campaign — but without going below the break-even price
The stock-clearance campaign rule
Even when clearing slow stock, set the discount rate by calculation: the Campaign Profitability Analysis tool shows the effect of the discount + sales-increase combination on total profit. Selling at a loss should only be done consciously and when cash is needed.
